Abstract: There are various outcome indicators in clinical studies of acute and critical patients, which are difficult to integrate. The core outcome set(COS)refers to the standard set of clinical outcomes that should be measured and reported in clinical research. This article reviews the characteristics and content of developing COS. Multiple stakeholders such as physicians and nurses, patients and families should be involved during COS development. Outcomes such as physical function, neurological and psychological status, activity and participation,as well as society and environment should be involved. The construction of a COS for critically ill patients can provide a reference for standardizing nursing research design and promote the transformation and integration of nursing evidence, but the core index set needs to be further refined and improved.
