Abstract: Objective To modify thenardite hot pack and explore the effect of the application in patients with severe acute pancreatitis. Methods The modified thenardite hot pack was made of skin layer,thenardite outer coating layer,waterproof heating layer and fixing belt. By convenient sampling,the patients who were diagnosed with severe acute pancreatitis and required thenardite external application for treatment were selected in the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery,General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University. 30 patients who used thenardite external compress bags from June to December 2020 were selected as the control group,and the 30 patients who used the modified thenardite hot pack from January to June 2021 were selected as the experimental group. The duration of abdominal distension and postoperative oral feeding time,compliance of movement and occurrence of related adverse events（abdominal skin condition,bed quilt cover and hospital clothing contamination） during treatment were compared between the two groups. Results The basic data of the two groups were homogeneous（P> 0.05）. The duration of abdominal distension was（4.10± 0.57） d in the experimental group and（7.63± 1.07） d in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant（P< 0.05）. The postoperative time of oral feeding in the experimental group was （2.07± 0.19） d,while that in the control group was （3.63± 0.47） d,and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant（P< 0.05）. 6 cases（20.0%） occurred contamination of clothing and 3 cases（10.0%） had abdo-minal skin redness in experimental group,24 cases（80.0%） occurred hospital clothing contamination and 7 cases （23.3%） had contact dermatitis on abdominal skin in control group,the difference between the two groups was statistically significant（χ²=13.125,P< 0.05）. Conclusion The modified thenardite hot pack can shorten the duration of abdominal distension,promote the recovery of intestinal function,and improve the treatment comfort and compliance.
