Emergency nursing care for a child with mitochondrial encephalomyopathy complicated by septic shock and severe dehydration

Abstract:

To summarize the emergency nursing experience for a child with encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome complicated by septic shock and severe dehydration. Based on critical challenges including energy metabolism failure,multi-organ involvement,and infection-induced perfusion crisis,we implemented fluid resuscitation and volume management guided by dynamic assessment,bundled infection control and internal environment management,sequential lung-protective ventilation and airway clearance techniques,meticulous medication management to prevent mitochondrial crisis,stepwise nutritional support based on metabolic demands,and predictive monitoring of complications. After 15 days of intensive care,the child successfully survived the acute critical phase with stabilized condition,was transferred to a general ward with home non-invasive ventilator support,and was discharged after 37 days of hospitalization.
