Evidence- based nursing practice for the prevention and management of environmental infection in ICU

Abstract:

Objective To apply the best evidence of environmental infection prevention and management into practice in ICU, aiming to improve ICU nurses' knowledge on environmental cleaning and disinfection and compliance with related behaviors. Methods We used evidence-based nursing method to summarize the best evidence ,developed the environmental cleaning and disinfection audit indicators and regulated clinical practice. We trained nursing staff through multiple modes. The knowledge and compliance of nursing staff to the best evidence before and after the practice reform was Compared. Results After the application of the best evidence , the compliance of ICU nurses with the evidence of environmental infection was greatly improved, and the score of ICU nursesknowledge on environmental cleaning and disinfection increased from (68.75+8.55) points to (92. 16+6.77) points with statistically significant difference (t=12. 164 ,P<0.001). Conclusion The clinical practice reform based on evidence can effectively promote the prevention and management of ICU environmental infection and improve the theoretical and practical level of nurse in infection control.
